From Hercules To Jet Setters

Because Mykonos is one of Greece's most popular islands, it is extremely congested during the summer. Spring or fall are the best times to visit the island if you want to appreciate it in a more relaxed manner. Mykonos is a unique, energetic island, a significant component of Greece's Cyclades islands, boasting sandy beaches and a well-known nightlife. This island has a beach for everyone, whether it's a little, hidden cove or a long expanse of sugar-white sand and deep green waters.mykonos villa with pool

Mykonos is also well-known in Greek mythology. Mykonos, a local hero and the grandson of god Apollo, is thought to have given the island its name. According to legend, the island of Mykonos was built when Hercules, after defeating the Giants, hurled them into the sea, where they petrified and became into giant rocks during the Gigantomachy - the great fight between Zeus and the Giants. The sacred island of Delos, which was said to be the birthplace of the twin goddesses Apollo and Artemis, is only a short distance away.

Mykonos, however, is endowed with other beauties in addition to its sparkling beaches and hungry revelers. Millions of visitors have been inspired by the cubic whitewashed Cycladic buildings that have been a significant feature for centuries. Since then, young people, celebrities, and jet setters have been drawn to the fascinating blend of homely customs with luxurious facilities and services. The capital town (Hora) is not built amphitheatrically like other Cycladic capitals, but rather extends out over a large territory. It is a compelling attraction and one of the outstanding examples of Cycladic architecture.
